Ruido Fiesta 9

This is 6€ for two bands, a beer, and a magazine (in Spanish), and Ruido fiestas are always a good night out. Here's a video of the last Ruido fiesta. The drummer at the start will be there on Friday.

Ruido Fiesta 7

Casiano Melian

Friday night was the fiesta for issue 7 of Fanzine Ruido, held in bar Jon y Jor, inthe same building as the Millenium cinema in Los Llanos

It was a great night out. €3 paid for entrance to the gig, a copy of the magazine, and a free beer. (I was driving, so it was the only alcohol I had all night.)

The bands were Casiano Melian and Eremiot y la Tripulación. They were great!

And finally, they had an impromptu jam session. My husband joined in on the drums, and had a great time.

Live Music on Friday Night

Ruido fanzine will hold a concert to launch issue seven at Jor and Jor in Los Llanos (beside the millenium cinema) at 10 pm. A measly €3 will get you in to a concert by "Casiano Melian" and "Eremiot y la tripulación", with a drink and copy of the fanzine thrown in.

And the Bar de Anne in El Paso, hosts a concert starting at 9 pm, with "Capitan Cogollo", "Carlos Katana", and "Serpielago".

More about the Music of the Stars Concert

I've been wondering how many people they thought they could get up at the Roque, given the need for things like parking and toilets. According to Canarias 7 (in Spanish) the answer is "perhaps 2,000". The idea is to transmit the concert to huge, open-air screens in each of the Canary Islands, and also in Madrid and London, and maybe Paris and Brussels.

Jean-Michel Jarre and Brian May are said to be enthusiastic about the project. They aren't the only ones. I can hardly wait.

"The Music of Stars"

For some time rumours have been circulating around the island's that Brian May's going to give a concert here for the inauguration of the huge, new, Spanish telescope, GranTeCan. Today, the IAC announced that Jean-Michel Jarre has visited the observatories here and at Teide, and will be playing too.

My goodness, I think it's really going to happen.

Fanzine Ruido 6

The island has a small, quarterly cultural magazine called Ruido, and issue 6 came out on Friday. As usual, they held a fiesta in a local bar, (Rocke's Bar on the Calle Real) with live music from local bands. And as usual, the place was packed.

The quality of the bands on these gigs is variable, but I like live music anyway.

Of course the magazine is on sale.

And the magazine comes with a ticket for the T shirt raffle.

And when the second T shirt went unclaimed, they threw it into the audience.

I didn't win a T shirt, but it was a great night out.

Music in the Streets

There's a new musical project in Santa Cruz de la Palma with backing from local government. On Saturdays, Sundays, and Public holidays, there's often free live music somewhere. So far six groups have joined the scheme, and almost every day, more businesses sign up.

This is a Cuban-style group called Chango, playing at the Kiosko de Eliseo halfway up the Avenida del Puente. They played from noon until about half-past two, and very good they were too.
